Flash Fiction

The Not So Good Friends
At school, on the weekend, whenever, wherever, you would always find them together. Ernie, Frank, and Chris. The three of them met in grade five, and became best friends. They would do everything together and they had a bond of friendship that could never be broken. Ernie and Frank were very similar. They were almost completely the same. Chris was usually the odd man out. When doing partner work in class, Chris wasn't one of the partners. When splitting a sandwich, Chris didn't get a half. This persisted until grade ten and despite Chris feeling left out at times, they were still a great trio of friends. At least Chris thought they were.
One day in class, Chris received a note. The note revealed that Coach Hines wanted Chris to be on the lacrosse team. It continued to say that Chris was to borrow the key from the office that opened the equipment closet, and arrange some lacrosse supplies. Chris was ecstatic. This would be the first team he was on.
During the lunch period, Chris went to the office to get the key. No one was there, so he walked in, snatched the key, then headed off towards the equipment closet. Chris put the key into the lock, thus opening the closet. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Ernie and Frank enter the room. "Thanks, buddy!" exclaimed Ernie. Chris was confused. Frank then pulled out a bag and began collecting supplies from the previously locked room. That is when Chris realized he had been tricked. Ernie and Frank left the room with the equipment. When the school discovered the missing goods, Chris was the only one to blame. He was suspended for something he didn't do, all because of his "best" friends. (296 words)

Reflection
This piece of writing I did shows manipulation. Chris's friends Ernie and Frank were able to manipulate Chris, and use him to achieve their goal, which was stealing the lacrosse equipment. It also shows how the blame was then but on Chris, suspending him, as Chris realized he had been manipulated.
